Checkerboard Beach Towel

I lost my password for awhile and gave up trying to post,but I finally figured it out. I missed posting a lot of crafts so I will probably post them retroactively. This checkerboard towel came from a 1976 Readers Digest "Complete Guide to Sewing" that I got from the thrift store. It has so many cute ideas. I went to the store to buy terry cloth but it was very expensive so I ended up using some black Friday towels that I had lying around from Walmart. I had to change the sewing plans a bit, but I think it turned out great. I originally started out with 10 checker squares like the book calls for but my engineer, chess loving husband pointed out most boards only have 8 squares.

Things I've learned about using terry cloth.

1. Buy towels and cut them up, it is way cheaper than buying terry cloth at the fabric store.
2. Luckily the sewing lines barely show up so I was able to use white thread for this whole project.
3. Be ready for a big mess, it looked like I had massacred Towelie from South Park in the room by the time I was done with this project.
4. Make sure you clean your sewing machine after this project because you will have fluffies everywhere.

Important Dates Book

I was trying to think of something I could make for a Christmas gift for my grandparents and a close family friend.   The thought for an important date book crossed my mind and this is what I came up with.  As usual I waited until last minute so it is a little more plain than I would like but with the time crunch I didn't have time for a lot of embellishments.  I mostly used a child's year and designer calendar Cricut cartridges.  This was my first attempt at binding with my bind it all and it was easy and worked great.  To make it more durable I glued the covers to thick cardboard card stock and the calender pages have a thick white card stock in between them.  I think most of the background pages are from The Paper Studio All Seasons paper pack.  Hope you enjoy my first post, hopefully much more to come!  I also want you to be able to see the products I used  on my projects so I will provide links in case you are wondering what something is.   I use Amazon because you get info, pictures plus reviews on the products.
